And what would happen after the world eradicated hunger? Perhaps they - those now free of hunger - they’d look around, see that things are going well, they’re not starving, and - Hey! We can support families of our own now!
Let’s set our newly-free-of-hunger populations to a’growing. (Oh wait, these populations have already been growing even when hunger was a humongous issue for them; populations stricken by hunger pains still grew; babies were still born irregardless; the rate of death by hunger has typically been lower than the rate of birth in these hunger-stricken countries which, incidentally, can also be categorized as the same countries where the birth rate and overall population growth are increasing [with few discrepancies] as opposed to the modernized countries where the rate of birth largely decreases and population growth is sustained typically only by the influx of immigrants.)
Grow, grow, grow, you population you. Exacerbate the rate of consumption, increase the need for finite supplies of water and natural resources. Increase the need for electricity, for living space. Increase population pressures. Agonize already-problematic issues.
Everything is intertwined. The world as we’ve made it, these human interactions, are characterized by complexity. Ending world hunger is not so simple as throwing 8 days’ worth of military spending at the issue every year. Solutions aren’t simple. If they are, they are probably crap, also.
This is a well-meant attempt at putting things in perspective and raising awareness of apparent disparities in how the world seems to rank things in order of importance (defense over humanitarianism, etc). But though well-meant, it solves little. It raises awareness but does only that, offering no solutions.
